Note to parent or teacher: Here’s a 20- to 30-minute lesson plan that highlights the following lesson objective: “Understand that humility is a mindset that should govern one’s actions, and why that is.” (Character Building: Values and Virtues: Humility-2c

ReadThe Benefits of Humility.”

Discuss the benefits of humility, gentleness, and meekness in one’s interactions with others in contrast with the kind of reactions others have toward you when you behave in a haughty or prideful manner.

ReadHumility Helps Friendships.”

Ask your child to think of a situation where he would need to choose to respond either in a humble manner or a proud manner.

Memorize 1 Peter 5:5. “All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’” (NIV)

Read Jesus—The Humble Man.”

Read Power-Up Devotional #11: Sprit Fruit: Gentleness and Meekness.” Do the action point mentioned on the last page of this article.

Discuss how gentleness and meekness are among the “fruits of the spirit” mentioned in Galatians 5:22–23. When we are spending time with God through reading His Word and through prayer, we will have more of such fruit in our lives, because the more we study God’s Word, the more we learn how God wishes for us to act toward others.

Read “The Purple Hat.” Ask the children to try retelling the story with the four counselors making an effort to work together to solve the problem in a humble and considerate manner, instead of arguing about who was right.

Read Humility: Bible Stories.”

Read some of the sample prayers in “Humility: Kids Talk with God” and then pray for humility together.
