Note to parent or teacher: Here is a 30-minute 0–5 lesson plan on turning to Jesus when we’re faced with a problem or difficulty, or when we don’t know what to do.

End with a prayer. Encourage your children to talk to Jesus as they would to their mommy or daddy. They can pray silently, if they are more comfortable doing so.

0–5 Lesson Plan: Prayer Is Talking with Jesus

Note to parent or teacher: Here’s a 20-minute lesson plan on prayer and talking with Jesus.

Listen to the song “Say a Little Prayer.

ReadBright Pebbles: A Special Kind of Treasure Hunt.”

Read the story “The Miracle Ride.”

Recount a time when Jesus answered a prayer that you or your child prayed.

Read the story “The Little Red Bus.

Discuss how just like mothers and fathers on earth love to give their children good gifts, our heavenly Father loves to do the same for us. Jesus tells us, “So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him” (Matthew 7:11 NLT).

Look up and read Psalm 100:4. (“Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.” NLT) Talk about how we should begin our prayers with thanks to Jesus for all that He does for us; discuss why this makes our prayers more powerful.

WatchThe Lord’s Prayer.” (Up to 1:17.)

Pray a praise prayer thanking Jesus for being our heavenly Father and always supplying our needs.

Talk about the special love Jesus has for children. Even though Jesus was busy, He considered spending time with children so important that He stopped what He was doing to do so.

Play the song “Thank You for this Bright and Sunny Day” as the children do the following coloring page: “Coloring Page: Spend Time with Me—It Makes Me Happy!

Read or listen to “Me and Jesus.”

Do "Coloring Pages: Me and Jesus.”

Help your child spend some time with Jesus today by…

  • listening to a song about Jesus,
  • watching a YouTube clip that features music and pictures of Jesus and children,
  • showing your child a favorite picture of Jesus while he or she spends some quiet time with Jesus.
