0–5 Lesson Plan: God’s Gifts of Salvation and Forgiveness

Note to parent or teacher: Here is a 40-minute 0–5 lesson plan on the gift of salvation and the forgiveness that Jesus gives those who ask Him for it.

Read “God’s Great Love for Us.”

Talk about things that can be done every day to be a good reflection of Jesus. Ask the children whether it is always easy to do what is right or good, and why one might choose to do something that is wrong, unkind, or hurtful. Explain how Jesus wants to help His children choose to do what is right, and that help is available through prayer.

Read “Salvation Is Forever.”

Explain how even though someone may do wrong at times, if he or she comes to Jesus with a sorry heart and asks Jesus for His forgiveness, He is eager to help. Ask the children if there are any things that they could use Jesus’ forgiveness for, then take a few minutes to pray and ask Jesus for His forgiveness and His help to do better next time.

Read “Salvation Is Free.”

Read “Bright Pebbles: That Simple,” then complete the “action” on the last page.

Memorize John 3:16.

Read “Twice Mine.”

Listen to “My Little Thoughts on God: Salvation Is a Gift” and color one of the coloring pages.

End by praising Jesus for His love and gift of salvation.

0-5 Lesson Plan: Filled with Joy

Note to parent or teacher: Here is a 30-minute 0–5 lesson plan on letting your heart be filled with joy, and then expressing that gratitude.

Watch “Down in My Heart.”

Read “My Little Talks with Jesus: Filled with Joy.”

Praise Jesus for two things that fill your heart with joy.

Read “Piggly Wiggly’s Trying Day.”

Talk about things that might go wrong in your day, and then think of all the blessings that your day is filled with that you make you joyful. 

Read “Character ABC: T Is for Thankfulness.”

Watch “Thank You, Lord, for Making Me.”

Make a display board of the things you’re thankful for. Whenever something happens that you are happy about, add that to your board.

Play “Farmyard Praise Game.” 

Color “Coloring Page—Character ABC: T Is for Thankfulness.”

0–5 Lesson Plan: I Will Trust

Note to parent or teacher: Here is a 30-minute 0–5 lesson plan on trusting God when faced with fear.

Read “When the Lights Go out”

Watch “When I Am Afraid.”

Read “Just Me and Jesus: You’re Never Alone.”

Talk about some of the things that you would like Jesus to help you to not worry about.

Read “Bright Pebbles: Our Awesome Protector.”

Draw a picture of Jesus watching over you, and then draw a circle around you and Jesus. This is the place where Jesus is keeping you safe from the things that may make you fearful.

Read “Bright Pebbles: Always by Our Side.”

Memorize this verse: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart” (Proverbs 3:5).

Color “Coloring Page: When the Lights Go Out.”

Anticipating Christmas!

You can begin celebrating Christmas now by starting to prepare The Nativity Story paper model. The goal is to create and set out a new section each week of December, so you can place Baby Jesus in the manger on Christmas morning.

Alternately, you can create the pieces in advance, and then starting on December 1st, set out one or two pieces a day, with the aim of adding Baby Jesus on Christmas Day, and the wise men with their gifts the following days.

To set out The Nativity Story paper model as the story unfolds:

Sunday, December 4th: Mary, Joseph, and the donkey, as they prepare for their trip to Bethlehem.

Sunday, December 11th: In Bethlehem, set up the stable, manger, cow, cats, chickens, and mouse, ready to receive their unexpected guests.

Sunday, December 18th: Outside of Bethlehem, place the shepherds, sheep, and campfire.

Sunday, December 25th: Bring all the characters to the stable, adding Baby Jesus to the manger and the angel announcing His birth.

Sunday, January 1st: The wise men arrive with their camels, bearing gifts for Baby Jesus.

The Nativity Story paper model can be found here, where it is offered by the model creator, Didier Martin, to download, print, and assemble.

Download all three PDFs that include the model parts. Also, download the instructions, which teach how to cut, fold, and glue together your Nativity scene.

Note: The most difficult piece to assemble is the stable. If you prefer, you could use a small box, set on its side, and then glue the leaves to the top and the textured wall pieces or colored paper on the inside and outside of the box.

0-5 Lesson Plan: Be a Friend

Note to parent or teacher: Here is a 20-minute 0–5 lesson plan on how to be a good friend.

Read “One Kind Deed at a Time: Build a Better Friendship.”

Talk about things that are important to build a good friendship (e.g., kindness, thoughtfulness, loyalty, etc.), and how to be the kind of friend who brings those qualities into a friendship.

Read “The Secret to Making Friends.”

Talk about how making new friends sometimes takes effort. Discuss what Wiggly’s life might’ve been like if he hadn’t decided to make friends. What did Wiggly gain from making friends?

Watch “Be a Friend.”

Read “Character ABC: B Is for Be a Friend.”

Do something to show a friend how much you care. You can write a note, give your friend a hug, or tell your friend what makes him or her special to you. Make a friend feel special today!

In “Book Bonanza: Going Exploring” we encourage youngsters to read a book or article featuring a culture they’re interested in learning about. If you don’t have a library nearby, or books readily available, here are a few sites where you can find online books and classics for children. We are not endorsing all that is available on these sites, but we hope you will find these links useful.
